Being that not everyone can visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, seek out local and state museums that are relevant to your social studies or science curriculum.

Use the buildings in your community as a springboard for site-based inquiries, by having students answer the essential question “If these buildings could whisper secrets of their past, what would they say?”

If iPads are limited, try to collect a small number to bring on the site-based learning experience. Students can be broken into groups, and one iPad can be provided per group.

If your schedule doesn’t allow you to push into classrooms, collaborate with classroom teachers on developing a learning experience where part of the instruction will take place within the classroom and the other part during library (class).

If working at the junior-high or high-school level and teachers and classes aren’t able to work with you, consider working with your administration to develop a required research class for each of the grade levels. Then, you can build the site-based learning experience into your curriculum.
